But if you are like most business owners, or the average small business leader, you’re not getting rich. Because it’s not as easy to make a profit as we dreamed it would be.
We started our small business to make a profit and provide for ourselves, as well as our families, and that is a really good thing!
Typically, you started a company to bring provision. You probably had a passion for what you wanted to do, but it became a business because you needed provision for yourself, your family, and eventually your employees and maybe your community.
Your dream included meeting your needs, making a living and building an opportunity to improve your future. You wanted to create a business out of your own idea, and not work for someone else. You wanted to work for yourself and build something that would last.
Now, you have a business. It has grown and provided for you and your family. Some years have been better than others, but your doors are still open and you have hired employees. As you bring on employees you are doing the same for them and their families. You are providing income, you are providing stability and opportunity, not just for you and your family, but other families as well.
Healthy small business provides a place for you to provide!
Building a small business is a good thing because it allows entrepreneurs and business leaders to create something that benefits the community and customers, as well as to provide for employees and families. Provision is a very important part of the equation- Passion is the other piece, the other side of the coin (but more on that later).
Business provides more than just a paycheck, salary or basic monetary needs.
Small business provides a place to grow in and practice:
- Specific job skills
- Communication
- Social awareness
- Community involvement
So the question many business owners and leaders are asking is, since my business is central to the provision of so many, how do I strengthen my business so it can sustain in the long term and be a thriving place of provision?
We realize that at the core of the answer to this question is to not go at it alone. We need each other, we need council, coaching, connections that will give outside perspective and advice. One of our dear friends and coaches says, “No one gets to clarity alone.” This applies to so many areas of our lives, but it also applies to our business. We need each other and we need to have counsel in our lives that will give us the feedback we need to grow.
