Why Mister Rogers Would Love Local SEO Services and You Should Too

July 31, 2015 / by Jessica Miley

mister_rogersMister Rogers was a neighbor to millions of kids around the world. We could always count on going to "the land of make believe" while he taught us the value of caring and love in every episode. But what does that have to do with local SEO services and why should you care?

What Are Local SEO Services?

Before we start explaining why we think Mister Rogers would love SEO, let’s first list what these services are. Local SEO includes:

  • Keyword research for local needs and wants
  • Creating local content (ex.blog articles)
  • Website optimization
  • Interacting with local customers via social media

For a visual explanation of SEO services for beginners, watch this video.

These are just a few of the services that are considered local SEO. For a full list, click here. Creating a strategy to implement these into your business marketing will not only help your business, but will also help your customers as well. Why should you care about your customers?

Mister Rogers Cares

If there is one thing that we could take away from watching Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, it's that we should care about other people even if we don’t know them personally. This is a great business model. Think about it, you have a product or service that you would like to sell to people. That product or service should help your customer solve a problem. Whether it's buying a new vacuum to replace their broken one or purchasing a new pair of shoes for a fancy dinner they're attending. It's important to be helpful.

Mister Rogers Would Want You to Be Helpful

Just like Mister Rogers would focus on building relationships with his viewers through the TV screen, you can do the same with your own business. Kids knew they could count on this sweater-loving gentleman to provide quality entertainment week after week. This is a concept that most people in business forget.

People are more likely to become your customer when they see an overt benefit to the product or service that you're selling. I don’t know about you, but my favorite brands I choose to buy from are constantly trying to be helpful. A few of my favorites are Amazon, Kirkland, and Vera Wang. These brands offer ease of shopping, a great price, and high quality merchandise.

Some businesses forget how important it is for customers to easily find you. This is why focusing on local SEO services is crucial to success. Just like knowing you could find Mister Rogers on your local PBS station, optimizing your website with keywords that people are actually searching for will help them find your business online.

Another way to optimize your content is by writing blogs on your website that have these keywords in them. Before the popularity of blogs, Mister Rogers wrote a book to share his relevant content to parents who needed it. If he was still alive to have seen how easy it would have been to create free content online that was created for different audiences, just think about how many people he could have helped!

The content that your business writes must be relevant to your potential and current customers or Google will quickly realize that those blogs aren’t helpful to the searcher. So your business needs to try to be as helpful as Google wants you to be. Besides being found by search engines why is it important to focus on your local SEO?

Mister Rogers Would Want You to Build Relationships

Think of Mister Rogers' style. His zip-up sweater and comfy tennis shoes showed his comfortable, laid back personality. You really felt like you were visiting the land of make believe with a friend on his trolley.

Wouldn't it be great if your potential customers could count on your business like that? Having a strong local SEO strategy helps build relationships with your potential and current customers. Local SEO strategies helps customers find your business so you can take them to the product or service they're looking for.

This increases a business's credibility and begins to build trust. Credibility and trust lay the foundation of a relationship. How else can a business build relationships? By providing great customer service and conversation:

  • in person
  • over the phone
  • via email
  • and social media

But you shouldn’t just focus on pleasing unhappy customers. Amazing brands and businesses also focus on creating conversations for positive interactions with their products or services. They also offer deals, coupons, sales and more which encourages more purchasing. Social media platforms are great for building relationships and customers are at the point where they assume that every business should have an active social media presence. Need more proof? Here is what our Social Media Manager says about it:

“Any more, people expect for businesses to have a social presence. If your business is not active socially, you are potentially losing out on connecting with your potential customers and your already loyal customers. “
