How to Manage a Business and Beat Out the Competition

November 20, 2014 / by Raquel Royers

Remaining competitive and learning how to manage a business that is successful is difficult. In order to stay ahead of the rest and ensure success, a management system is necessary. Excellent management that has certain key characteristics radically increases your potential to be a company that provides financially, thrives as an organization and increases how happy people are about their jobs, also known as a Passion and Provision company.

It’s as easy as this:

Good management=good company

The better management, the more smoothly your company will run. This in turn will result in more profits and a thriving, successful small business. How do you do that? Keep reading!

Five Key Characteristics of Management

  • Good communication
  • Goal setting
  • Accountability
  • Trust
  • Public Recognition

The first four are really fundamentals of any good management system. They can be described in different ways but when you get down to the base of it, it is all the same.

When good communication, goal setting, accountability and trust are developed in a company, and then you add public recognition [which basically allows employees to see that what they are doing is working and they are being recognized for their work] it is incredibly powerful. If you take out one of these five pieces it radically impedes a company from thriving and slows down the system.

Public recognition almost acts as a catalyst. However, if you try and implement public recognition and you don’t have one of the first four in place it has the potential to not work or it will backfire on you. When you don’t have clear communication, clear goals, accountability and trust; when you start telling an employee they are doing a great job it sounds very hallow and empty. For employees, it may feel like you are giving them empty encouragement. Remember, happy employees make for a more successful small business!

If you want to grow your business and make it bigger, better and faster you need to use the five characteristics of management. If you want to be the most competitive that you can be and learn how to manage a business these five pieces of good management need to be in place to have a successful small business.
