The holidays are a great time for business, big and small, to give it their all when it comes to creative advertising in the form of TV commercials. Advertisers work hard all year long to create ads that will raise brand awareness and promote new products, but there is something about the holidays that bring out the best in advertising for business. The holidays bring out the importance of passion and provision, even in business.
But what makes great holiday advertising in the form of TV commercials? Snow, animals, kids and humor. But in all seriousness, there are some elements that do make great TV commercials. The ones that stick with you and move you, and believe it or not, keep their company or product top of mind without shoving it down your throat.
So, I asked our team here at Half a Bubble Out what their personal favorites were for this holiday advertising season.
Jessica had to go with Kristen Bell and Dax Shephard decorating their house for the holidays using Samsung’s cool technology. The fact that they start in matching pajamas and end in matching sweaters is like a dream come true for Jessica.
Raquel got a laugh out of the penguins and rocks in the Kay Jewelers’ commercial advertising diamonds. She may not admit it, but it seems she does have a romantic side.
Kathryn is a sucker for good story telling. The fact that this TV commercial by Apple, not only tells the story of the making of the duet, but also shows the giving and receiving on the gift at the end, makes it even more powerful for Kathryn. Talk about a win for most likely to jerk a tear out of my eye!
We don’t hold grudges or take things personally around here, but because Kathryn stole Paige’s first choice, Paige went with her second choice. Coke and Walmart teaming up is a pretty powerful force to reckon with! A brother working hard in the winter to save money for a bike-well just wait until the end and see if you can hold back a smile!
Michael was having a hard time choosing his favorite holiday TV commercial since a few of his favorites were taken, but after watching this John Lewis Christmas advertisement, it became his first choice- after all he is a sucker for true love, even with penguins. And who doesn’t love a boy and his imagination!
And since I am writing this blog, I am including my two favorite holiday advertisements.
Sainburys’ commercial speaks to my love of all things historical and relational. I can just imagine this happening during war- holidays do tend to let boys just be boys if only for a few minutes.
Lastly, I couldn’t pass up the UPS TV commercial that speaks to the inner child in all of us. Here at Half a Bubble Out we are all about people living out their dreams and working in companies where passion and provision come together. Don’t we all want to have a job that we love, doing something we love? I hope this piece of advertising will help you pause to think about what it is you are passionate about and what dream job you want to do for the rest of your life!
So what moves you? What makes you stop what you’re doing and watch? What captures your heart and makes an impression?
