Screen_Shot_2014-08-06_at_4.30.36_PMWe know it’s hard. Owning or managing a small business in a time where people are struggling for money is difficult. You’re already a small business, fighting to stay alive amongst all the big box stores. The last thing you need is a failing economy. We feel your pain. Just like you, we are a small business and understand the daily struggles. We’re here to help you and give you tips that will allow you to see the light at the end of the tunnel and ensure your small business continues to thrive.

Be likeable

Be a business that people like. Think back to high school. Remember that person that everyone seemed to like? They weren’t super popular and didn’t even really seem to have one particular group they hung out with. But for some reason everyone liked them.

Be that person—but in business form. It’s all about creating a good aura and personality for your business. Be happy, helpful and provide honest and good work, products or services.

Customer service oriented

Customer service can make or break a business, especially a small business. While you are marketing online, word of mouth still serves a huge purpose for small businesses. Train your employees and put an emphasis on how important customer service is to you. If customer service is lacking or failing in your business your profits and success with soon follow. Hands down.

Need proof? Check out these facts:

  • 89% of consumers have stopped doing business with a company after experiencing poor customer service. (RightNow Customer Experience Impact Report)
  • Consumers are 2 times more likely to share their bad customer service experiences than they are to talk about positive experiences. (2012 Global Customer Service Barometer)
  • 80% of Americans agree that smaller companies place a greater emphasis on customer service than large businesses (Help Scout)

Try not to have customer service like this:

Treat your employees like gold

Company culture and employee happiness is key. Your employees are the backbone of your business and you couldn’t run it without them. Make sure you treasure your employees and make it clear that they know it!

Keep on trudging through those tough times. If you start implementing the factors that we have addressed on what makes a small business grow you will start seeing positive changes. Be that business that people like and that your employees love working for. We know you want to and we have faith that you can do it.
