The other day my two-year-old daughter desperately wanted to play outside and I desperately needed to submit an online press release, so I told her “just a minute, mommy has to work and then we’ll go outside.” That bought me some time and got me thinking: even though she’s not yet at the stage of asking questions, she clearly understands when I explain something to her in very simple terms. One day, she’s going to ask me what I’m working on. How would I explain internet marketing to her?

You can write a blog in one hour, but here’s the disclaimer: you have to be writing what you know or at least something you have learned. For example, I couldn’t write a blog about global warming in one hour because I know next to nothing about it, but I could easily write a blog giving you internet marketing tips because it’s what I do day in and day out.

Okay, so the title of this blog post might be a tad misleading, I mean George Orwell has been gone for quite some time now and would have known nothing about the future of marketing, let alone internet marketing. However, a good writer leaves his stamp on history somehow whether it be through their books, essays, speeches, or blogs. The fact that the following essay excerpt from George Orwell can be applied to internet marketing to help grow your business is indeed admirable and evidence of a timeless writer.

I got up at 5 a.m. this morning and went to the gym. Crazy to some, but I know that is the optimal time for ME to exercise. If I plan to go after work, I either end up not going because I’m too tired or had a better offer; or I go and dread being there the entire time and don’t get a good workout in. Some people would rather eat brussel sprouts than get up at 5 a.m. to exercise – and that’s okay – but for me it’s part of what makes my day feel balanced. I have more energy, I tend to eat healthier, and it does my body good.
