Why We Love Inbound AND Outbound Marketing

July 2, 2015 / by Raquel Royers

paper hearts hung in an inbound and outbound marketing agencyWe love inbound marketing! Woo! Wait, we love outbound marketing! Oh no, can we love both, inbound and outbound marketing? If we love outbound marketing are we cheating on inbound?

The simple answer is NO.

When you use inbound marketing and outbound marketing together you end up with a better, more rounded marketing strategy for your business overall. If you think about it, and the different pieces and parts that inbound and outbound marketing cover, it makes a lot of sense why these two work best together.

Pieces of inbound marketing:

  •         Content writing/website copy
  •         Emails
  •         SEO
  •         Blogging
  •         Social Media

Pieces of outbound marketing:

  •         Billboards
  •         Sales calls
  •         Print material
  •         Radio spots
  •         TV Commercials
  •         Direct mail

Benefits of inbound marketing

Inbound marketing is marketing that people LOVE - Inbound marketing is not pushy or annoying. It’s helpful content that the person is truly looking for. Inbound marketing is educational, and while still selling and prospecting, does it in a tactful manner. No pop up ads or spam here.

You can capture and nurture leads – With inbound marketing you can actually see who is coming to your website, as long as they fill out a form. Once they’ve done that you have the ability to see what pages they visit, how often they come back and send them emails to nurture them and help them down the sales funnel.

Analyze your marketing efforts – With inbound marking, analytics are made easy. This is a large section where outbound marketing is lacking. It’s hard to know how many people looked at a billboard, but with the help of inbound marketing, you can track how many go to a specific landing page or website page of the URL that was advertised on the billboard.

Benefits of outbound marketing

Outbound marketing can often have a negative connotation compared to inbound marketing. However, while they are traditional marketing methods, they can still work and be very effective.

The power of frequency – Traditional marketing such as radio spots and commercials are powerful forms of outbound marketing because they have the ability of frequency. A message, brand or slogan is able to be projected visually and audibly to your audience. Even when people think they are tuning out the message, it still impacts them and helps your business.

Traditional is comfortable – Outbound marketing is marketing that people are used to. Plus, while some outbound marketing isn't appreciated, other forms are enjoyed; such as TV commercials and great ads.
