1oclock resized 600Today we’re going to answer the question, why is social media important during certain times of the day? We’ll go over the best and worst times to post on Facebook and Twitter. It is crucial that you post during the right times as it could increase your click through rate drastically.

Research has shown that Facebook traffic increases after 9 a.m. The best times for posting on Facebook are during the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. When it comes to Twitter traffic increases after 11 a.m. Your best posting times are during 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. To view the worst times to post on Facebook and Twitter, view the infographic below.

Posting during these time windows can be the difference between receiving 5 or 6 clicks on your post and 50 to 100 clicks. We tested this during a promotion we were running for one of our clients. We were giving away a two free $25 ice cream gift cards and what we noticed was when we would post anytime before 1 p.m. during the week we would hardly receive any clicks, but when we posted on Wednesdays around 3:30 p.m. we received a tremendous amount of clicks and subscribers to our blog. We acquired a total of 110 blog subscribers in just a two week period posting during the right times on Facebook.

It’s All About The Timing

Timing is everything! Make sure your hard work is paying off. It would be a waste of time to create a great blog post or article and have it delivered to your social media channels during a time nobody’s on. You would be missing out on providing valuable information to your customers and being able to interact with them, which essentially is your answer to why is social media important in the first place.

Take a look at the infographic below and see how closely your posting strategy matches up to these stats. If you’re currently not following this model I would suggest you alter it and track the difference of clicks you receive on your posts.

A great side tip to track your post clicks is to use bitly.com. This is a company that allows you to create customized “trackable” links you can place on your social media posts to see exactly how many people clicked on your post. And the best part is that it’s 100% Free.

Start Seeing Results That Answer Why is Social Media Important

Now go out and apply what you have learned. It may take a couple tries to get down the perfect timing for your specific industry and location, but to start try between the hours of 1 p.m and 4 p.m. and use those as your benchmark times.

Have fun with this. See if you can beat last week’s click throughs by changing the timing of your post. Sometimes social media posting can be a mundane task but having a competition with yourself can add some fun to the matter.

So now that we’ve answered the question why is social media important during certain times, it’s time to schedule those posts!

Best of Luck.
