Is Pinterest One of the Lead Generation Techniques Your Business Should Use?

Written by Jessica Miley | May 2, 2014

In the fast-paced world of social media, businesses can have a difficult time keeping up with what’s hot and what’s not. There are many different platforms for businesses to use as lead generation techniques that are also a great way to connect with your current customers. But which social media platforms should your business choose?

One of the most commonly misused platforms by businesses is Pinterest. This platform is great for business when used properly. Pinterest can expand your reach using group boards and drive traffic to your site while increasing brand authority. But not all businesses will be able to do this successfully. Ask yourself these 4 questions to see if your business is ready for Pinterest.

Are you sick of social media?

Any type of social media takes time and consistency to work. If you are already burnt out on spending time managing the social media sites that your business already has, then don’t sign up for Pinterest. It needs just as much attention as you would spend on your business Facebook account.

If your business provides a service, are you able to share more than just what you do?

If you provide one single service and you aren’t able to make your boards and pins creative and engaging, then you most likely won’t be successful on Pinterest. Lead generation techniques need to please or solve a problem for your future customers.

Are you ready to “pin” things that aren’t just about your business?

Yes we understand that you want to be the “go-to” business for potential customers in your industry, but it isn’t realistic to think that you are the only stop when they are researching or trying to solve a problem. If you “pin” other businesses’ boards that are related to your product or service, this gives your leads a variety of information and they will know to go to your business for that. Isn’t that a good thing?

Do you have the time and resources to increase quality?

We mean the quality of your site and the content that is given as well. If you are posting photos and videos of your product that are outdated or not relevant just to put something on Pinterest, then this probably isn’t the platform for you. Pinterest is a site solely focusing on the visual nature of your product and service, so you need to make sure that the visuals are top-notch. Remember, that this media represents your business.

All of the lead generation techniques have one thing in common. They offer something to satisfy potential customers. Just take a look to see if what your business has to offer will satisfy customers without being boring and generic. So if your business has these qualities, then give Pinterest a try!
