How Can Your Business Benefit from Small Business Saturday?

Written by Chris Vande Lune | November 27, 2015

What is Small Business Saturday?

Small Business Saturday is the Saturday after Thanksgiving that has been dedicated to shopping locally and supporting small businesses. It comes right after Black Friday and before Cyber Monday. The unique thing about Small Business Saturday is that it's meant to draw attention to small businesses in your local community, rather than just the big box operations.

How can your business be noticed on Small Business Saturday?

Offer special deals

The shopping days right after Thanksgiving are filled with great deals on all kinds of items. People have come to expect this as a way to kick off the holiday shopping season. So, offer them something at a great deal - it can go a long way towards driving excitement for your store or business.

Be active on social media

It’s always good to have a social media presence, and it’s a great tool to use to promote your Small Business Saturday deals. Get the word out in your community, advertise your deals or special offers, and generate buzz around your business.

Advertise, either locally or on your website

Along with social media, you can advertise locally or online. This can include signage at your place of business, or placing a promotional banner on your website. The idea is to get the word out so get creative!

Be prepared

Of course you don’t want to bring all of that traffic in without having something to sell, so make sure you have a decent amount of offers for your new customers. What exactly you offer will vary depending on the type of business, but you won’t sell much if you run out too soon.

Don’t just focus on the one day

While small business Saturday is designed to bring in customers to your small business, you don’t want to be reliant on one day a year of increased sales. This is a great opportunity to show your local market that you provide what they need with great service, and to build lasting relationships with your customers. After all, many people may be checking out your business that wouldn’t normally “shop small”. They may come in for a special deal, or simply because they want to support businesses locally – but they could also become a regular customer for life.
