First things first, when we say “good website,” we are referring to the visual aspects and the content of the website. For example, let’s say that you have a website rated #1 in the world in the eye candy category and content that is being linked to over 100 times a day. This is the “good website” we will be referring to.
Now, you may think a visual website with all the bells and whistles would be all you need partnered with good content but that is not the case. It takes a lot more to have a fully functional and profitable lead generation website.
And this is where we begin dissecting what makes a good website.
Let’s start with the basics. If your website doesn’t have a way for your customers to contact you then simply don’t expect anyone to contact you! Please, if you don’t have a contact form on your site, add one before the end of the day!
This at least gives your customers or readers a way to contact you with the possibility of landing a lead or conversion on your site.
A CTA is what’s known as a Call-to-Action and is another aspect of what makes a good website. It is usually an enticing offer that is placed on your site that tells the visitor what to do next, with the motive of gathering buyer persona information. This can be done by allowing your viewers to download a free white paper or guide in exchange for their email, name, phone number or business name. Providing quality content that answers questions your visitors may have is a key part of what makes a good website these days. The more contacts you receive the better. The easiest way to do this is by throwing up a few different CTAs on your site to test which one works best, and then watch the leads roll in.
A form on your website without a workflow is somewhat pointless. Your goal with a contact form whether it be associated with a landing page, CTA or simply a contact us page is to have each submitted entry placed into a workflow. A workflow will help start the lead nurturing process. This is a series of emails that are automatically sent to your lead as follow up emails to keep them enticed to what you have to offer, furthering the process of achieving your goal of a conversion.
If you can’t tell by now, the theme of what makes a good website completely useless is a site that doesn’t produce any contacts or leads for you. Even if you’re an amateur blogger that writes to your best friend, it is still important to have a good contact form and a way for people and visitors to your site to engage with you or your content.
A key goal of internet marketing is to gather leads and contacts. If your website doesn’t do this you’re missing out on a lot of opportunities.
