[Client Spotlight] Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital Changes Name After 64 Years

Written by Raquel Royers | November 18, 2013

We recently helped consult and advise one of our clients through the renaming process: the Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital which is now Orchard Hospital, changed its name after 64 years of operation.

The hospital relied on us at Half a Bubble Out to help them organize the name reveal and to get the information out to the public and media. We had so much fun working with everyone at the hospital and wish them the very best success with the launching of its new name!

Here’s a copy of the press release we submitted to the media. Please feel free to share this information.

Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital has a new name!

After 64 years of operation as Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital, the Hospital Board announced today that the hospital is being renamed to Orchard Hospital and will function under that name beginning November 22nd, 2013.

Gridley, CA Nov 14, 2013 – The Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital Board of Directors announced today that effective November 22nd, 2013, the hospital will be operating under the name Orchard Hospital.

The hospital is set to begin construction on a brand new state-of-the-art Emergency Room and a fully renovated front entrance area early next year. John Harris, Chairman of the Board said “with the new construction on the horizon, the Board felt it was a great opportunity to assess the name of the hospital. We have known for a long time that the name is difficult to say and remember for people, and that our hospital serves patients not only from Biggs and Gridley, but also from Live Oak, Yuba City, Oroville, Richvale and other communities.”

The Board entered into a contract to consider renaming the hospital in the summer, and made a unanimous decision to change the name to Orchard Hospital. As to the choice of the name “Orchard Hospital” Harris stated “we went through a formal process with a professional company and chose this name primarily because of the hospital’s location amidst a large number of orchards.” Wade Sturgeon, CEO of the hospital added “when describing where we are located, I always refer to the vast orchards and how you can’t get to Gridley without driving through one, so the name made sense to me when the Board came up with it.”

Over the next week in preparation for the official name change residents of Gridley will see the hospital getting some new trim paint and the new signs will be installed on November 21st.

“We are excited about the future of the hospital as we head into this new season.” Sturgeon said. “Our staff and doctors have been serving the community for 64 years and are committed to being a premier hospital in the North State in the coming years.”
