Increase Website Conversion to Reveal New Customers!

Written by Natasha Hawkins | May 17, 2013

Most internet marketing tactics for increasing your website conversion are technical and advanced, however there is a simple way you can help increase website conversion. Give your customers what they are asking for. Sounds way too easy right? However, even though this “give them what they want” approach seems obvious, many businesses fail to accomplish it. We believe the key to giving your customers what they are asking for is with relevant content.

What is Website Conversion and Why Should I Increase It?

Your website conversion rate is a measure of the number of potential customers that go on to buy. In the context of a website, it is usually the percentage of visitors that make a purchase. Many websites concentrate solely on increasing the number of visitors they have, and forget to plan for the entire cycle of a visitor. Getting thousands of visitors is great, but if they all leave after 2 seconds without buying it does your business no good.

If you increase website conversion you will increase the number of customers you get from your website. Wouldn’t it be nice to increase the number of customers for your business?

To increase your conversion rate there are a few factors to consider and one crucial factor is your website content.

What is Website Content?

Website content is the textual, visual, and aural content. Some examples of web content are: text, eBooks, calls to action, images, sounds, videos, and animations.

Why is Relevant Website Content Important to increase Website Conversion?

Have you ever searched for something specific on the Internet, clicked on a search result, and landed on a website that was absolutely not what you were looking for? If yes then you probably remember your next step in searching was leaving the non-relevant site and doing another search. This search cycle happens all the time and leads to frustrated searchers and a drop in website conversion.

Don’t let your website fall into this cycle. We want your website to be found by people who are actually interested in your product or service, and are more likely to buy from you. This will lead to an increase in website conversion for your website and more customers for your business. Once way of accomplishing this is by adding content that has a clear message. Learn how with these 5 tips!

5 Tips to Increase Website Conversion:

1. Have a clear subject and message for each page on your website

The page should have one clear thesis for each web page. If you are selling red shoes on a page, then your whole page should scream “red shoes.”  I know it sounds like common sense, but you would be surprised at the number of websites we see who fail to achieve this.

2. Add Proof for Increased Website Conversions

Now that you have written your thesis statement for the page or in the least identified your main subject, you need to show credibility and proof with statistics that support your thesis statement. Without statistics or hard facts your readers won’t always believe you.

3. Add Social Proof

Social proof could be testimonials from your customers, Facebook feeds, Twitter feeds, or anything that shows there are people who have purchased your service or product and found it valuable.

Featuring product reviews can improve sales by up to 18%. And my favorite study ever by Oneupweb showed that customer reviews and testimonials are considered an important purchasing factor by 40.9% of respondents. (Source)

4. Relevant Images

Images are a great addition to any web page, however if your images are not consistent with the main subject of the page they do nothing to increase website conversion. Choose images that match your content on the page, or add value to the page. Infographics are a great way to add a lot of value with an image and are great for your SEO efforts.

5. Does Your Web Page Pass the 5 Second Rule

Put on your customer hat, and see your web page through their perspective. Open your page and look at it for 5 seconds. After the three seconds try to answer the following questions without looking at the website again.

  • What was the page about?
  • If you offer a product, what was it?
  • If you offer a service, what was the service?
  • Would a website visitor trust your page?
